Ruven Afanador grew up in Bucaramanga, Colombia and moved to the U.S. at the age of fourteen. After working as a fashion photographer in Washington D.C., he went on to live and work in Milan. His work has appeared in the world’s leading fashion, celebrity, and portrait magazines, as well as in numerous galleries, museums, and exhibitions worldwide. He has published three books: Torero, Sombra, and Mil Besos, in which he captures ballet and flamenco dancers and matadors. His photographs explore the different facets of Spanish culture, exude eroticism, and destabilize conventional notions of beauty. He has worked with prominent filmmakers and screenwriters such as Luis Buñuel, Gabriel García Márquez, Pedro Almodóvar. He has been featured in publications such as Art Nexus, The New Yorker, Diners, ARTnews, Paris Photo, and Summus.
