Dear Friends and Supporters,
Days ago, the Holocaust Museum in Houston opened its doors to a major exhibition, Speaking Up! Confronting Hate Speech. This exhibition underscores how words have the power to incite genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity.
This is PROOF: Media for Social Justice in action!
PROOF worked in partnership with the Holocaust Museum Houston & the Director of the Genocide Studies program at Yale University to weave together visual images, text and graphics to confront the public with examples of hate speech from the past to this day. More importantly, the exhibit inspires visitors to recognize their responsibility to remain vigilant against hate speech and promote core ideals of democracy, tolerance, and human dignity.
This is what PROOF: Media for Social Justice does best!
(Yes, we are asking for your support, but first, read on!)
In 2021, PROOF also:
Worked with students at the University of Dayton to produce a podcast series, website, and curricula entitled POISON POWER: The Fight for Water;
Established a partnership with Clark University and Fairfield University to develop a new initiative Share the Platform with practitioners and scholars from refugee and non-refugee backgrounds who call upon their refugee colleagues to deliver their expertise on the unique needs and experiences of refugee populations in a wide variety of fields;
Worked with The Chinese University of Hong Kong to create a website addressing atrocity speech law;
Gave presentations on gender-based violence at Tufts University and University of Dayton;
Ran workshops and presented research on human rights exhibiting at conferences;
Started a Picture Justice Program in Australia (The Creative Citizen Project).
With your support, we can do so much more in 2022!
We plan to:
Tour the exhibition, Speaking Up! Confronting Hate Speech in other sites throughout the U.S., South Africa, and Australia;
Expand access to Speaking Up! Confronting Hate Speech by producing a series of downloadable exhibit posters and a curriculum to distribute to teachers around the country;
Pursue a partnership with the National Civil Rights Museum in Atlanta;
Work with the University of Dayton’s Moral Courage Program to explore innovative housing solutions around the country; and
Reactivate our I VOTE BECAUSE initiative for the midterm elections.
BUT WE NEED SUPPORT FROM YOU - - OUR CHAMPIONS OF SOCIAL JUSTICE - -
TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN!
Thank you for making an end-of-year donation to PROOF: Media for Social Justice.
